It’s a Brant New Day – Brant Daugherty By Aleksandar Tomovic For BELLO Mag 2013 Holiday Issue

01

It was a pleasure to photograph and feature the handsome and talented Brant Daugherty in the current Holiday issue of BELLO mag. It was also a pleasure to follow his moves in this season of Dancing With The Stars … unfortunately Brant was voted off the dance show way WAY too soon.

Here is a look at the Bello Mag fashion story shot by Aleksandar Tomovic.

“Brant Daugherty is coming off of an emotional week. The Dancing With The Stars contestant recently performed a contemporary piece dedicated to his late father shortly before joining hundreds of Pretty Little Liars fans at L.A.’s Hollywood Forever Cemetery for a special Halloweenthemed event. Moving from one bloodsweatandtears experience to a more lighthearted affair is just another bullet point on his ever expanding todo list. And none of it is lost on the Ohioborn actor, because he’s enjoying every second of it while continuing to broaden his horizons…like poking fun at The Hunger Games and avoiding running down paparazzi with his motorcycle. And yes, there’s talk of this selfproclaimed former theater geek returning to PLL as the blackmailing jock Noel Kahn …”

So, while working out shirtless in the local neighborhood park, is one aware of nearby paparazzi? Do you ever feel like giving them a show? Ever have a crazy runin?

I’m usually pretty unaware of the paparazzi unless I know they’re going to be somewhere. They have to be crafty to get the shots they want. So far things have been pretty tame. The weirdest thing I’ve seen happened right outside our rehearsal studio for Dancing With The Stars. One of the photographers jumped right in front of my motorcycle as I was driving away. I had to slam on the brakes to avoid running him over. I’m still not sure what he was trying to accomplish.

What has surprised you most about your DWTS experience, besides the grueling rehearsals?

I never thought I’d enjoy dancing as much as I do. Before the show, I was always reluctant to get onto the dance floor, and I never had the confidence to really give it a shot. I’ve been learning so much every day and growing as a performer. It’s been such a fun process.

Who’s hotter? A pretty little liar, or an army wife?

That’s a tough question. The Pretty Little Liars are gorgeous, but I have to give this one to the Army Wives. Supporting a husband or wife in the military has to be one of the hardest and most

underappreciated jobs in the world. I have so much respect for the people who make that work on a daily basis.

The Starving Games sounds delightfully spoofy…

It was the most fun I’ve ever had on set; we just pitched jokes and laughed during the entire shoot. The directors let us play around and try new things every day. When you watch it, you can tell how much fun we had making it. I screwed up so many takes because I couldn’t stop laughing. I really wanted to play Gale in the Hunger Games movies, so it was an honor to be able to poke fun at the character.

Finish this sentence: “In high school, I was…”

A theater kid. I quit playing football to spend more time doing the school plays. It didn’t make me popular, but it definitely pushed me in the right direction. Do what you love and don’t worry about what other people think.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

My dad always told me to not wish my life away. Sometimes we get so wrapped up with what comes next that we forget to enjoy where we are at the moment.

Obligatory holidaythemed question alert! What are you most thankful for?

I’m thankful every day for all the amazing people who love and support me. I’d be lost without my family, friends and fans.
