Best of British: Grenson Shoes
Built on the back of one man at a time when shoemaking was still a cottage industry, Grenson have been producing high quality, trend-leading, durable shoes since the 1860s.
Made from premium leather, every Grenson shoe is ‘Goodyear Welted’, an age-old technique that has characterised English shoes since the mid-1800s and is still used as the primary method when manufacturing men’s dress shoes. This process, although more time consuming than modern adhesive methods, guarantees longevity and is synonymous with quality brands such as Dr. Martens, Oliver Grey and of course, Grenson.
The current collection of men’s Grenson’s shoes at Cruise fashion is a timeless assembly of brogues in both shoe and boot styling, all made in the same factory the company has had in operation for over 100 years.
A standout pair are the Fred pine brown brogue boots. Part of the G-Two collection, a slighter cheaper range for those who want a quality, yet affordable shoe, the Fred boots offers the fashion forward a distinctly different option from the more common desert boot. Made to be worn with turned-up jeans and a heavy jacket, these are the boots you’ll want to see the winter through in style.
For a more casual shoe, the laser cut Sid high shine black leather brogues are also from the G-Two family and are a classic wing tip. Made from hi-shine leather with a double sole and split welt, this shoe has become an instant Grenson classic and would look sharp styled with either casual or smart clothing. For a strong 2013/14 aesthetic, team them with a pair of colourful socks, wine chinos and a light knit.
Grenson do a range of shoes, the G-Two collection we have already highlighted, however, if you’re after a premium shoe, painstakingly handmade from one single piece of leather, then the 0005-50642 is a sound option. Part of the G-Zero series, made entirely in the Grenson factory from skin to box, this is the ultimate in shoemaking. Created from the finest calf leather with a closed channel, hand polished leather sole and lined in same top grade calf as the upper, the 0005-50642 is a stunning shoe best reserved for occasions when it will be appreciated.
The other lines of Grenson shoes are the G-One, very similar to the G-Zero in style and creation, and the G Lab, a range of limited edition shoes. These are truly unique shoes as only roughly, 20 pairs are made and one of the best are the on-trend camo print 36609-537C. A great example of urban styling on a premium shoe.
