Rad by Rad Hourani F/W 2012
It’s always a pleasant surprise when talent returns to show in the city after spending years presenting in other cities. For F/W 2012, Rad Hourani, the Montreal-raised designer showed his unisex – and practically seasonless line – for first time in Toronto.
The show started with a mini-film that resembled a Tumblr page with flickering GIFs, celebrating his successes from the past five years. A lover of black, Hourani played with a hint of colour for this season; two variations of a soft, mossy green. The outerwear was full of his signature geometric shapes with woolen and leather flaps and folds being draped from several places. Although the collection was limited with its selection, the slim-lined leather accessories were the perfect addition to the already trim coats.
One thing that can always be appreciated about Hourani is the lack of “design” with his pieces. Always technically well-made, they aren’t created with useless flourishes. And although his aesthetic is known for being lean and mean, it’s far from cold; proof that terms like “modern” and “edgy” can mean be translated into wearable clothing.
